River Blackwater (Langford)

The Eel Regulation Compliance project at the River Blackwater in Langford is for installation of eel friendly screening equipment at our abstraction point on the river. The work is driven by the need for Essex & Suffolk Water to comply with the Eels Regulations (2009) and will improve the biodiversity value in the River Blackwater.

Update by Nicola Wigington

Welcome to our Community Portal for the River Blackwater Eels Projects and thank you very much for visiting. I’m Nicola and I am the Project Manager for Essex & Suffolk Water's Eel Regulations Programme of works. The first of our three projects in the Langford Mill/River Blackwater area will be starting the design phase early next year (2021) so I wanted to start sharing information with you about our plans.

If you're a near neighbour to the Langford Mill site I'll be writing to you in the New Year with some further information but if you'd like an overview of the projects please take a look at the other tabs on this website (Investing in Our Environment, Planned Work and FAQs).

For the first few months of 2021 you might notice occasional extra activity at the site as we'll need to carry out some surveys to support the design but most of the planning and design work will be done off site. There will be regular updates in this section of the portal to keep you up to date with progress so please ‘follow’ this project (click on the big red box in the top right of the page) if you’d like to sign up for email notification of new updates.

Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
