EEL PROTECTION SCHEME

River Bure (Belaugh)

The Eel Regulation Compliance project at the River Bure in Belaugh is for installation of eel friendly screening equipment at our abstraction point on the river. The work is driven by the need for Essex & Suffolk Water to comply with the Eels Regulations (2009) and will improve the biodiversity value in the River Bure.

Update by Nicola Wigington

Hi and thanks for visiting our community portal for the River Bure at Belaugh Eel Regulations scheme.  My name is Nicola and I’m the Project Manager for Essex & Suffolk Water.  I’ll be providing updates on behalf of our project team throughout the life of the scheme so please remember to check back regularly to follow our progress.

We’re planning to start works in January/February 2020, commencing with the temporary access track between the pumping station site and the river.  This will enable us to access the site safely with large vehicles like the crane which will be used in the main installation later in the year.  You may also see some of our team and other contractors visiting the site to undertake surveys before the main works start in the New Year.

We held a great interactive session with local residents at the village meeting on 31st October.  From that we've listened to your concerns and are reviewing the plans for traffic management to minimise disruption whilst maintaining safe access for all road users.  We need to discuss these options further with our traffic management experts and the Highways Authority and when we have any developments I'll add an update to this portal.  For more details please also check out the 'Traffic Information’ tab and click on the roadworks icons.
