Replacement of 2.1km of existing cast iron water mains with new polyethylene pipes. Also replace existing property service pipes and external control boxes from the water mains to the property boundary within the public highway. August 2017 – November 2017 We are investing £0.4 million to improve our water mains network in the Barking area. This will improve supplies to 650 properties in the area of Keir Hardy Way and surrounding streets.
Typical working hours will be Monday to Friday between 07.30 and 6.00pm. Some excavation and reinstatement work may take place on Saturday’s in order to help complete the work as soon as possible.
There may be times when we will have to interrupt the water supply. These interruptions will be as short as possible and take no longer than 3 hours. The majority of these interruptions will take place on week days between Monday and Friday between 9am and 12 o’clock lunchtime.
A minimum of 48 hours warning will be given for any planned interruption to water supplies.
With this type of work it is inevitable that there will be some disruption in the immediate vicinity of the work. There will also be an increase in some heavy traffic in the area, with vehicles transporting materials to and from the site compound and streets.
Access to your property should be maintained. If you are going to be affected we shall let you know beforehand.
We shall be providing a letter approximately 10-14 days before we commence work in each street. Updates will also be posted on the community project portal and you can also contact us on 0345 782 0999 and arrange a call back or visit from one of our project team to discuss any queries.
Please contact our customer centre, on 0345 782 0999, and we will make arrangements to help you.
If the collection wagon cannot get to your property, please put your bin out as normal and our site team will ensure the bins are moved to a place where they can be emptied. In the unlikely event that a bin collection is abandoned, we will arrange a revisit.
Yes, as precaution we recommend you turn off all taps, including hot water, during any supply interruptions.
Once your water has been restored please run your cold water tap in the kitchen until the water is clear.
Appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers should only be used once your supply has been returned to normal.
There is no danger to your central heating system as long as you do not draw water from your hot tap when the water supply is off.
