Over the winter of 2017/18, Essex & Suffolk Water, in partnership with Essex Waterways, will be replacing the sea lock gate and central timber mitre gates at Heybridge Basin in Essex. The project will involve the closing and draining of the lock in October 2017, crane lifting operations for the gates and the assembly and testing of the new gates prior to the re-opening of the lock in March 2018. There will be disruption in the area during this work period but we will endeavour to keep this to an absolute minimum.

Others in the team

There will be a number of other people and contractors working on the site delivering their element of the project.

Essex Waterways have played a key part by assisting us at all times throughout the project and will be crucial in helping us for the construction phase.

JMH Construction from Wickford removed the gate in 2015, prior to construction phase.

The designers of the steel sea gate and civil works were MWH from High Wycombe and KGAL Consulting Engineers from Poole.

The manufacturer and installer of the sea gate will be Centregreat Engineering from Cardiff.

The designer and installer of the timber mitre gates will be Hargreaves Lock Gates from Halifax.

During the planning process of the project, we have worked with Heybridge Parish Council, Maldon District Council, Essex County Council, Environment Agency, Marine Management Organisation, Natural England and several others.
