Heybridge

Over the winter of 2017/18, Essex & Suffolk Water, in partnership with Essex Waterways, will be replacing the sea lock gate and central timber mitre gates at Heybridge Basin in Essex. The project will involve the closing and draining of the lock in October 2017, crane lifting operations for the gates and the assembly and testing of the new gates prior to the re-opening of the lock in March 2018. There will be disruption in the area during this work period but we will endeavour to keep this to an absolute minimum.

Project updates

Update by Ryan Lloyd

Hi everyone

Thank you very much for your patience especially over the last couple of days during the installation of the new timber mitre gates. The works attracted quite a crowd at one point!

It was a pleasure to witness firsthand the craftsmanship and skill that has gone into manufacturing and installing the new gates. There's still a bit of work to be done to complete the site installation but thank you to Nigel Lord and his team of Hargreaves Lock Gates for their efforts on site.

Thanks

Ryan

We anticipate that for up to two hours at a time, starting at 9 AM on Both Days, we
will have to block the small access road down the side of our compound and the
road up towards the boats, there may be periods of short interruptions of no more
than ½ hour at a time when the crane is being manouvered that partial closures will
occur.

We apologise for any inconvience this may cause

Thank you

Update by Ryan Lloyd

Hi everyone

In the next couple of months, there will be an increase in site activity to install the various elements for the new gates.

With the cold temperatures, tidal surges and working around the low tide times, we have had to work on a bit later than planned for on some evenings. Please accept my appolgies for any disturbance caused.

Moving forward, we hope to be back to normal working hours from the 6th Feb 2017.

Installation of new timber mitre gates

The plan to install the new timber gates is during the week commencing 20th February 2017. Please be aware that there will be a crane on site for these works but we will endeavour to keep disruption down to a minimum. More detailed information regarding days/times will be shared in the next couple of weeks.

Best regards

Hi all

We will be removing some of the timber sleeper boards off site which were used for the crane works. There may be some road access restrictions between 10:30am - 12:00pm tomorrow 8th December 2016. However, we're trying to get this done without any access restrictions and we apologise in advance for any disruption we may cause. We really value your patience and understanding.

Thanks again

Update by Ryan Lloyd

Good morning all

Just a quick update to share a key milestone on the project. The old upstream timber mitre gates have now been removed, allowing for the lock to be prepared for the installation of the new set of gates. It was an impressive sight seeing the old gates being lifted out with each leaf weighing in at around 6.5 tonnes!

Thanks
