The construction phase of this project is now complete.
There may still be updates, so the project will remain here. We are still monitoring the project and will reply to any comments. So if you have any questions please feel free to comment or contact us here.
Essex & Suffolk Water, in conjunction with our partners MWH, Natural England, the Environment Agency, the Broads Authority and Norfolk Wildlife Trust, will be mud pumping specific areas of the Trinity Broads during the winter of 2016/17.
Typical working hours will be between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Saturday. There will occasionally be work carried out on Sundays and outside of these typical hours but we will provide advance notice of these days and times.
The mud-pumping equipment will operate from the water but its delivery to site will involve large vehicles. There could also be some disruption when the barge is removed from the water and moved to its next launching site.
The working areas are at the margins of the Broads but will include pipes floating from the dredging locations to the disposal fields. The pipes will remain in place throughout but will be clearly visible due to their bright yellow floats along the length.
The pumps on the barge will be fitted with silencers and noise levels will generally be low. Because the Broads are such a tranquil area, the noise could travel and be a low drone in the distance but would generally be quieter than traffic in the distance and this should not cause disturbance to any of the wildlife or the users of the Trinity Broads.
Yes, there will generally be no restrictions except in the areas of the mud-pumping and where the discharge pipes run. Only one mud-pumping site will operate at a time. The mud-pumping areas themselves will be relatively small areas and be protected by silt-curtains strung across the individual bay for the period of pumping only.
The discharge pipe is vulnerable to damage if struck and care must be taken when operating boats in the areas of the works.
