There may still be updates, so the project will remain here. We are still monitoring the project and will reply to any comments. So if you have any questions please feel free to comment or contact us here.

ESSEX & SUFFOLK WATER, IN CONJUNCTION WITH OUR PARTNERS MWH, NATURAL ENGLAND, THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY, THE BROADS AUTHORITY AND NORFOLK WILDLIFE TRUST, WILL BE MUD PUMPING SPECIFIC AREAS OF THE TRINITY BROADS DURING THE WINTER OF 2016/17.
The Trinity Broads comprise of Ormesby, Ormesby Little, Rollesby, Lily and Filby Broads which lie just above sea level. The Trinity Broads are designated a Site of Special Scientific interest (SSSI), Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) and a Special Protection Area (SPA).
More information about the Trinity Broads can be found on the link below.

Essex & Suffolk Water abstract from Ormesby Broad to feed the Ormesby Water Treatment Works. The works provide drinking water to Great Yarmouth, Caister-on-Sea and the surrounding areas. This abstraction has been identified by the Environment Agency (EA) as having the potential to have an environmental impact on the Trinity Broads.
The project involves removal of sediment from eight specifically identified areas of the Trinity Broads; two locations on Filby Broad, one on Lily Broad, two on Little Ormesby Broad and three on Ormesby Broad.

The proposed method of removal and subsequent dewatering involves the use of a specialist barge with hydraulic mud pumping capabilities. The sediment is extracted by pumping from the barge along a pipeline to the adjacent agricultural land.
The sediment slurry will be pumped into Geobags which will then dewater naturally for up to eight months. The dried sediment is then removed from the bags and spread onto the land. The contents of the sediment has been tested, no adverse chemical contaminants were identified.
