Trinity Broads

Essex & Suffolk Water, in conjunction with our partners MWH, Natural England, the Environment Agency, the Broads Authority and Norfolk Wildlife Trust, will be mud pumping specific areas of the Trinity Broads during the winter of 2016/17.

Planned work

Initial site set up and mobilisation work is planned commence in December 2016. The first areas for mud pumping are on Filby Broad. During January 2017 we will move onto Ormesby Broad, finishing with Lily and Ormesby Little Broads during February 2017. This sequence has been discussed and agreed with Natural England and is designed to minimise the impact on over wintering birds.

See Trinity Broads Schedule of Works 11-11-16.xlsx for sequence

Deliveries of equipment will commence in December 2016 and will continue throughout the duration of the works.

Three launch areas have been identified for the mud pumping barge; Ormesby WTW, Rollesby Broad Sailing Club and the National Schools Sailing Association centre at Filby.

On completion of the mud pumping work, all areas will be demobilised and cleared.

During late summer / early autumn 2017, FGS Agri will return to the sites where the Geobags have been stored for dewatering to spread the dried sediment onto the land.
